So I might own a first edition of Tad Williams' The Dragonbone Chair I guess?

I found a hardcover of the book at a Goodwill last month and just started reading it today and one of the things I noticed immediately is the year of publication listed is 1988 and no other dates or markings that would indicate that it's a reprint or anything. It also has Tailchaser's Song as Williams' only book published up to that point. The inside flap of the dust jacket says "Book Club Edition", so that probably disproves it as a first edition. A relief and preference, honestly, because I don't like the idea of owning first editions of classic SF&F series or really books in general.

Herring has tons more on his Tumblr, so be sure to comb through the archive.

My fantasy book collection isn't great, but it doesn't exactly suck either

I've been taking pictures of my various bookshelves lately and thought I'd share the ones of my fantasy books.

I got the cabinet itself by swapping with one of my parents.

It's worth noting that this isn't the whole entire shebang. I could only fit so many in the cabinet, so I had to be choosy with what went in it and I chose books that I'm planning on reading if not this year, then the next. The ones that didn't make it are probably going to end up boxed up with the rest in the closet.

I think it's a nice collection, though. It shows where my tastes in the fantasy genre lay which is mostly in the more standard and maybe "generic" territories. I also favor books that aren't doorstoppers. That one Sanderson book is giving me the stink eye, but it's true otherwise.

To battle!

Artist: Pierre Joubert.
Found on Tumblr.
There's a lot about this that I like: The dude hacking away at the chains, the other dude who's either going to get skewered on that polearm or give its owner a good solid thwacking, the knight charging into the fray, and look of "I didn't sign up for this bullshit" on the horse's face. The weapons and clothing is great too because it looks accurate or at least what I assume to be accurate.

Great picture, overall.

I need to finish reading the series. Might have to start with a re-read of Pawn of Prophecy.

And that's how you troll a troll

Credit: Stepan Alekseev.
I get the feeling that there are a lot of DMs and players who will look at this picture and go "Yeah, that's happened before."

I would certainly hate to meet her in a dungeon!

Credit: Spacefriend-T.

Because there is no doubt that she would kick my ass up one corridor and down the other. I really like the choice of a war pickaxe, since you don't see those used in fantasy fiction much at all. No idea how prevalent they are in gaming.

Michael Whelan's painting of Shallan from Brandon Sanderson's Words of Radiance looks gorgeous

(via Tor.com)
Tor also has the picture available as wallpapers, so take a gander at those. Truth be told, I didn't even know this picture existed until I saw this post over at A Dribble of Ink. Worth a read, as it talks about why this would have been a better cover for Words of Radiance instead of what ended up being the cover. It is pretty odd and dumb that Shallan isn't on the cover of what is apparently her book, though.

Check out this awesome Vlad Taltos fan art by AshleyCope

Stolen shamelessly from The Wasp's Sword & Sorcery blog.

Credit: Ashley Cope.
I dig the smirk on Vlad's face and the way he's holding his sword. It's almost like he's saying "that's a nice face you've got there, be a shame if my rapier went through it."

Dragon Mistress

This is supposed to be a picture of Daenerys Targaryen with one of her dragons, Drogon. Instead, it looks like Mario Teodosio drew a very awesome high fantasy/sword and sorcery picture of a woman and her dragon, hence the title of this post.

(via A Wiki of Ice and Fire)
Either way, it's a bitching picture.

Did somebody say Elf cavalry?

Someone did. I noticed that the top search keyword this week is "artwork elf cavalry", so I may as well give the people what they want, so I googled and found this picture:

Art by Daarken (via Pins of War)
Yup, Warhammer wood elves clashing with some state troops of The Empire.

There's screwed, then there's screwed like a prom date in the back of a Volvo. This picture is of the latter sort

This is why the Devil is never allowed to DM.
(via Doktor Archeville)
I feel like if the DM puts something like this into a game, you're morally justified and obligated to introduce your foot to their nads.

Image inspiration: Tom Hiddleston looks awesome in armor

Found these on Tumblr.
I did some googling and found that these are from The Hollow Crown, four-part TV adaptions of Shakespeare's  Richard II, Henry IV Parts 1 & 2, and Henry V. Tom Hiddleston played Henry V. I really dig the armor and cloak in those pictures.

In a fantasy or gaming world, I could see him being a noble. Maybe not a king or prince (well, not one high on the succession list), but definitely a noble - maybe a baron or earl. I could also see him being the leader of a band of mercenaries or a rebel army.

Sif and Jane Foster get their own posters for Thor: The Dark World and they're pretty dang spiffy

Saw both of them on GeekTyrant today.

I like this one in particular. Sif's armor is decently realistic. Sure, her arms and legs are unarmored, but keep in mind that Sif is an Asgardian, so she's far more durable than the average human and heals faster too.

Also? Jaime Alexander is on my list of actresses who should play Wonder Woman.

I dig this one too because it has a fantasy feel to it. Love the shoulder armor (spauldrons? Pauldrons?) and vambraces.
